Remarks

remarks Kaas & van Belle (1987) demonstrated by cuspidate differentiation that M. conspicua of Dall and I. conspicuus of Pilsbry (both Carpenter MS) are necessarily distinct from one another. One specimen marked with 'x type f. 91' see plate 2, figure 11 see also Pilsbry, Manual Conch. (1)14(53):63-64, plate 15, figures 91-96 - specimens described as Ischnochiton (Stenoplax) conspicuus Carpenter, n. sp. see also Palmer, 1958 (Geol. Soc. Amer. Memoir 76:270-271, plate 35, figures 1-2) Boss Rosewater and Ruhoff (1968:89) attribute name conspicua to Dall; Keen (1971:871) attributes it to Pilsbry. Syntypic designation is doubtful.
