Botanical Description

Leaves two, rarely three, up to half expanded at flowering time, linear-lanceolate, up to 20cm long at maturity but usually less erect. Flowers one to eight, purplish-pink to white, the lobes 2-3cm long, anthers purplish-black, styles straight or slightly curved, stigmas point-like, late winter to early spring. Hungary, Yugoslavia, Albania, Bulgaria, in dry, stony and sandy habitats, sometimes at the back of the sea shore. C. hungaricum forma albiflorum can be used for white-flowered variants.
