Tufted to mat-forming. Leaves narrowly oblanceolate, crowded into columnar rosettes, ciliate and hairy on both surfaces. Flowers white, 2.5-4.5mm wide, in racemes l-5cm tall. D.p. var. treleasei has mustard yellow flowers. North-western North America in subalpine and alpine habitats including stony ridges and fellfields.
