Marion, MI - Post Office (1940's) - Contributed by
Paul Petosky
Marion is a thriving little
village on the middle branch of the Muskegon river,
and at the junction of the Ann Arbor and Manistee &
Grand Rapids railroads, it being the eastern
terminus of the latter line. It is in the
northeastern part of the county, thirty miles from
Hersey, the county seat; was settled in 188- and
incorporated in 1889. It has a well-constructed
plant for the generation of electric light and power
a mile west of town, where is also located a
sawmill, a good bank, a pretty little opera house, a
graded Union school and Catholic and Methodist
churches. The general appearance of the village,
with its clean streets, fully stocked stores and
neat houses, is attractive and reassuring.
