Welcome to Lloyd Montana:  In the Heart of the Bear Paws
Lloyd was established as a General Store and  Post Office in 1890.  Lloyd, Montana located twenty-five miles south of Chinook on Snake Creek in the Bear Paw Mountains may have no particular claim to fame, but it is noteworthy because unlike the many early country post offices and stores which were established, flourished for awhile, and then died to become only a memory, Lloyd has been in continuous existence since January 11, 1890.  On that date the Post Office Department of the United States government authorized the establishment of the Lloyd post office.  Lloyd was named for 'Old Man Lloyd', an experienced prospector, who was one of the early explorers of the area.  Lloyd is situated in an area surrounded by several large cattle operations.  Many of these cattle ranches are 4 and 5 generation operations.  Today the main building has been restored to much of its original granduer.  Many visitors stop by on their way through the Bear Paws and recount the numerous country dances in the dance hall as well as attending school at the Lloyd School one-quarter of a mile down the road.
