Biodiversity
Tanzania is very rich in biodiversity. This is because of diverse eco systems, topography, and climate. (Salaam 2001). Also Some believe that the land is very fertile due to ancient sacred grounds. Tanzania in fact, is considered to be one of few "Hot Spots" around the world because of its bio diversity. Culturally the people of Tanzania depend on this diversity. They live, work, and profit off of the land. It is one of the top ways the Tanzanian people make a living. Also because of this diversity Tanzania became a tourist attraction.
The people and government of Tanzania realized how important it was to conserve their land so the enacted a convention to protect their rich land. "The people are committed to implementing the articles of the Convention" (Salaam 2001). Only 6% of the land is being used. Some estimate that 55% of the county's total land could be used to make profit.
90% of the feed for farm animals are grown right on Tanzanian land. This makes the country very self sufficient. The culture thrives almost on its own because the country is do biologically diverse. There is also an aquatic ecosystem that is essential to the biological and cultural diversity, along with economic benefits. The country has many fresh water systems that other aquatic systems that are protected within parks and reservoirs.
The population of Tanzania has been rising at a rate of almost 3%. The diversity and richness of the environment has been given some credit for the rise. Although with these positives there are some negatives. There is a lack of accessible land and drinkable water. On top of this there is also pollution that is affecting all environments. The country reviewed their laws to clean up and better maintain the integrity of the Convention.
