Ophrys sphegodes, also called Ophrys aranifera (HUDSON 1778), is quite wide-spread and frequent.

It is rather robust and bears large flowers with pale green sepals and yellow-greenish petals showing a dark border. The lip is dark brown with weak protuberances and a basal field brighter than the lip. The mirror is bluish and quite small.

O. sphegodes blooms from April to May.
