Vaginal laxity can occur as a result of childbirth, aging, or weight loss. Normal vaginal delivery can result in widening of the vagina by stretching the tissues and separating the adjacent muscles. As a result, women may experience vaginal gaping, reduce sensation during intercourse, and sexual dysfunction.
Vaginoplasty surgery is designed to tighten the vagina and restores the vagina's original appearance. It involves several combinations of procedures:
1- Posterior repair: Tightening of muscles and removal of excess mucosa along the vaginal canal.
2- Tightening of the pelvic floor muscles (Levator Ani)
3- Perineoplasty Procedure: Narrowing the vaginal opening, removal of redundant skin, and repairing the tissues between the vagina and anus.
4- Removal of any scars from previous childbirth or trauma to increase blood flow to the vagina.
* Some women may benefit from additional non-surgical procedures like ThermiVa or Monalisa Touch laser to provide healthier and tighter mucosa after the vaginoplasty procedure.
* Some women may elect doing Labiaplasty at the same time of vaginoplasty to address all their cosmetic gynecologic needs at once.

Studies show that 80% to 90% of patients experience an improvement in their sexual life after surgery. Vaginoplasty increase friction and enhance sexual sensation. The improvement in the aesthetic appearance enhances self-confidence resulting in increased libido.
Vaginoplasty involves tightening of the vaginal muscles and removal of scarring and excess tissues. It is a same day procedure and can be done under local Anesthesia or sedation but still has some down time. However, this is the most effective way for vaginal rejuvenation and gives long lasting results.
Monalisa Touch Laser or ThermiVa Radiofrequency work by heating the tissues and promoting collagen formation making the tissues firmer. They work great for mild vaginal laxity but will not help with more severe cases as they do not tighten the muscles. Sometimes we use them with Vaginoplasty to tighten the mucosa further and help with lubrication.
Risks may include bleeding, infection, hematoma formation, loss of sensation, scarring, and painful intercourse.
Patients may have one to two weeks of down time. Most patients return to work within a week. Complete recovery is expected after 6-8 weeks.
You may feel pain or achiness after the surgery, you will be prescribed pain medications to help you through the first few days.
You may have mild bleeding, bruising, or swelling. These usually resolve within a week.
No smoking for at least a month after surgery as it delays the healing process.
No sternuous activity, exercise, or bath for 6 weeks.
No tampons or intercourse for at least 8 weeks.
Depending on the amount of tightening performed, some patients may be instructed to use dilators.
Vaginoplasty surgery typically costs between $5,000 - $8,000 depending on the degree of vaginal laxity, the complexity of the procedure, the surgeon's experience, and whether you will do it at the office under local anesthesia or at the surgical center under sedation. Dr. Elshoreya will give you a more accurate estimate once he examines you and determines what is needed to be done.
Since Vaginoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that is not covered by insurance, we partnered with Care Credit so you can finance your surgery and pay on your own pace. No interest fee if you pay it over 6 months.
