What are Intraspecific and Interspecific competitions?
Intraspecific competition–
Meaning- An intraspecific competition means a competition between members of the same species.
Example- Polar Bears generally live alone, expect for mating, but sometimes they will cross each others paths and if they both want the same thing from that area they will fight for it, sometimes until death. They will fight over, food, dens and for males in the mating season they may even fight for females.
Interspeific competition –
Meaning- An interspecific competition means a competition that occurs between different species.
Example – An adult Arctic fox has few enemies, and when it is involved in an intraspecific competition it will most likely be with the Red fox, due to the fact that their ranges overlap each other. They compete for such things as den sites and hunting areas along the sparsely treed fringes of the tundra biome.
