Bezhta is the center of the Bezhta district. Population: 4010 (2008), 3502 (2010), 4001 (2017). Bezhta language belongs to the Andi-Tsezic group of the East-Caucasian languages. In Bezhta people speak "Bezhta proper" whis is also spoken in Balakuri, Isso, Sinatli, Zhammod, Andzhaga and in the village of Kachalay in Babayurtovsky district.
