SOUTH POINTE PARK

Miami Beach, FL

This is an ecologically sensitive community park at the south end of Miami Beach.   The park is programmed to accommodate both active and passive recreation, with grass playfields, coastal dunes, hammock zones, a playground, a wide bay front promenade, and dramatic views of the water from a serpentine landform and the cut walk. The revitalization of this underutilized public park transforms it into a neighborhood and regional destination through the integration of diversified urban park programs, regional gardens and restored native habitats, and the connection with urban circulation systems.

In 2009 the project was one of only two projects awarded top Honor for Excellence in Design by the Florida/Caribbean Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
