Datum Origin, Horizontal, Vertical

Datum measurements are the horizontal and vertical distances measured from a datum origin. The Datum Origin option allows the user to select one point on the part to use as the reference for all other datum dimensions. Select a point (usually the lower corner of the part), and then position the Datum Y and Datum X text boxes. There can be only one datum origin per part.

Note: If you cannot find a satisfactory position for the datum dimension by moving the pointer, click the right mouse button to shift the datum. Position the datum dimension almost anywhere on the part and left click to finalize.

Notes: You must define a datum origin before you can create other datum dimensions.

If you delete the datum origin, the remaining datum dimensions are deleted.

If you need to position the datum origin somewhere on the part where no snap points exist, use the Point option on the Draw menu to create a point before attempting to create a datum origin.

If you add another datum origin, the new origin replaces the current origin. Datum dimensions always reference from the current datum origin.

Datum Horizontal

The Datum Horizontal option allows the user to position a horizontal dimension for the X coordinate of a pattern.

Note: Datum origin must be placed first for this option to function.

Select Datum Horizontal and then click on a point for the dimension. For example, move the pointer onto a round hole pattern and left-click. When the text box and dimensioning line appear, drag the text box to the desirable position and click to finalize.

Datum Vertical

The Datum Vertical option allows the user to position a vertical dimension for the Y coordinate of a pattern.

Note: Datum origin must be placed first for this option to function.

Select Datum Vertical and then click on a point for the dimension. For example, move the pointer onto a round hole pattern and left-click. When the text box and dimensioning line appear, drag the text box to the desirable position and click to finalize.
