Location  French Pete Creek Hike

Where:  The Sisters Wilderness

John Stolting agreed to come along on this scouting trip of French Pete Creek. I'm thinking of bringing grandson Tylor here on a training backpack trip in a week or so. I first hiked this 29 years ago with Tylor's dad who was a young lad of six at the time. (See Trip Journal entry of May 1973)

A lot has happened since then. French Pete Creek had many interesting wooden bridges to facilitate foot travel up the canyon. Located at that time in the Willamette National Forest there was much publicity and effort to save the old growth forest of the area by protecting it with wilderness classification. In the insuring years that happened and it is now apart of the Three Sisters Wilderness. However with the passing of time all the bridges have rotted or been washed away. Major replacements like that are difficult in wilderness areas. So now to travel the length of the trail, fording the creek in some places is necessary as John and I discovered.
