China's Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Ltd. announced Wednesday that the company would be the global sponsor of the 2010 International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) World Cup held in South Africa.

Yingli, a solar energy company located in Baoding, north China's Hebei Province, is the first Chinese company that has become the global sponsor of World Cup, FIFA president Joseph Blatter said in a video message broadcast at Wednesday's signing ceremony.

According to the agreement signed by Yingli and FIFA, Yingli would be responsible for the installation of the solar-power lighting systems in the twenty stadiums where the World Cup would be held, according to the agreement.

In 2006, Yingli also provided the systems to the last FIFA World Cup held in Germany.

Yingli, a public company enlisted on New York Stock Exchange, is one of the world's largest vertically integrated photovoltaic manufacturers.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 19th of the World Cup series, and it will open on June 11.
