9. Favia leptophylla
The colonies of Favia leptophylla are massive, roughly spherical, and vary from 10 cm to 1 m in diameter. Its calices are irregular and present well developed lateral walls. The calices have three complete cycles, and a fourth incomplete cycle, of septa. The living colony is light beige to slightly green. | |
Favia leptophylla is endemic to Brazil. It is similar to Eocene Caribbean species. This species was found only on the coast of Bahia. It is abundant, at depths between 3 to 15 m, in the area of Abrolhos, and rare at a depth of 4 m on the Itaparica reefs. |
