9. Favia leptophylla

The colonies of Favia leptophylla are massive, roughly spherical, and vary from 10 cm to 1 m in diameter. Its calices are irregular and present well developed lateral walls. The calices have three complete cycles, and a fourth incomplete cycle, of septa. The living colony is light beige to slightly green.
Favia leptophylla is endemic to Brazil. It is similar to Eocene Caribbean species. This species was found only on the coast of Bahia. It is abundant, at depths between 3 to 15 m, in the area of Abrolhos, and rare at a depth of 4 m on the Itaparica reefs.
