ABOUT THE BIRDS Scientists do not know why the Long-billed Partridge needs such an unusual beak, but it may be an adaptation for specialised feeding in its jungle habitat.

Found in bushy grassland and forest clearings, the Madagascar Partridge is widespread in its native island, despite being extensively hunted. The Black Wood-partridge is one of the least-known Galliformes. A quiet species that sits tight when disturbed, it is difficult to see in the forest gloom.
