Clio pyramidata Linnaeus, 1767
A worldwide pelagic species.
Predator and suspension feeder on microplankton, in the photic zone after dawn, in deeper waters during the day. Linnaeus gives a rather short description: « Pyramidal sheath with an obliquely cut mouth. » (t.1, pt.2, Mollusca, p.1094).

The embryonic extremity measures circa 0,3mm.
When disturbed, the animal can completely retract inside its shell. 50m deep, Scilla, Calabria, SW. Italy. 5mm.
The animal in H.-M. D. de Blainville: Manuel de malacologie et de conchyliologie, Paris 1827, plate XLVI via BHL. It has been shown that the species is loosing its shell in the southern hemisphere, due to ocean acidification.
