Malachite & Shattuckite

Wulfenite
February 10th
Tucson Show specimens - The last hoorah from Tucson. This is a group of 20 specimens from all over of pieces that I selected while here in Tucson.  Nice stuff here for sure.

Red Beryl
February 10th
Red Beryl - My pal Steve Perry was holding out on everyone. I saw a flat of red beryl specimens which are simply impossible to find anywhere and dropped my business card in the flat. These are not the best that ever came out of the mine but they are simply impossible to find in any quantity any longer.  Many of these have significant gem rough also.

Quartz Cast after Fluorite
February 10th
Quartz Casts of Fluorite - Uk Mining Ventureshad some of  these unusual quartz epimorphs of fluorite. These are quite odd in that the quartz was deposited over the fluorite and then a subsequent pulse of sulfide mineralization came through depositing sphalerite crystals on the front and insides of the casts.  Somewhere between the fluorite was dissolved away.  These come from the Boundary Cross Vein, Rampgill Mine, Nenthead, Cumbria, England.

Pyrite
February 10th
Chinese Pyrite - Wendy's Minerals had a new find of calcite frosted with micro crystals of pyrite from Dandan, Guangxi Province, China.  They also had specimen of the rounded pyrite clusters on fluorite from Shao Guan, Guang Dong Province, China. I have only seen the latter sparingly at the Munich Show up till now.

Wulfenite - Morocco

Fluorite - Namibia
February 7th
African Minerals - I have put together a small group of African minerals picked up here at the show.  Minerals from Morocco and Namibia primarily.

Potassium Ferritaramite
February 6th - New Find
Potassium Ferritaramite - Dudley Blauwet returned from a recent trip to Pakistan with specimens of a new find of potassium ruch ferritaramite.  This species is related to hornblend and pargasite.  The crystals are jet black and naturally etched to look a lot like etched kunzite crystals - except that they coal black in color.

Asian Minerals
February 6th
Asia - This is an assortment of interesting specimens mostly from Pakistan and Afghanistan of pegmatite and other minerals.  Minerals from Dudley Blauwet and Francois Lietard.

Chinese Minerals
February 5th
China - I have picked up an interesting assortment of Chinese minerals since getting here and have finally shot and posted them.  Most are from Yaogangxian but there are a few others from different localities.

Benitoite
February 3rd
Benitoite! - My Benitoite partner in crime Steve Perry arrived in Tucson with over 100 newly etched benitoite and neptunite specimens.  The boy has been busy there in Davis.  I culled out about 10 or so for an update of brand new specimens to offer on the web. The rest will be here in Tucson during our small 2 day show.
Wulfenite
February 3rd
Utah Wulfenite - I have not seen wulfenite this good from there before.  Isaias Casanova has the entire supply of these and he will be set up at the main show with thumbails to very small cabinet sized specimens.  They come from the Harrington-Hickory Mine, Milford, Beaver County, Utah.  Not a new mine but this is some very good material from this mine.  They are associated with minute mimetite and or vanadinite according to Christ Tucker who has handled these in the past. I have a selection of 10 specimens and two are of reticulated cerussite with wulfenite from this new material.

Axinite in Quartz
February 2nd - New Find
Quartz with included Axinite - Tehachapi, California dealer John Seibel has been busy this year with collecting efforts at Majuba Hill in Nevada and the New Melones Dam in Calaveras County, California.  At New Melones he worked the well known axinite locality and came up with some exceptional specimens of quartz included with crystals of axinite. I cannot recall ever seeing specimens of this sort from this locality - or anywhere else for that matter.Cantayre

Rhodonite
February 2nd - 3 New specimen added
Brazilian Rhodonite - Eric Cantayre and Luciana Barbosa had some new intense red rhodonite specimens from Conselheiro Lafaiete, Minas Gerais, Brazil.  I was in Brazil this past July and was openly depressed when I had a chance to see some rhodonite with Ze Estrada.  He had barrels of the stuff and it was 99.999% road fill in terms of quality.  Anyway, my eyes popped when I saw these and I obtained as many good specimens as I could. Luciana also had some very rare specimens with spessartine associations.

Lawsonite
January 30th
Museum Grade Lawsonite - My benitoite partner in crime Steve Perry arrived last night with some of the largest and finest  known specimens of lawsonite from the type locality in Marin County, California. Steve, as you may recall, had a number of smaller specimens of this rare metamorphic mineral a few years ago at the Tucson Show. He had three of these museum grade specimens in his truck and handed them over to me to put on the web.  You will never see specimens like this again as the original locality is not only worked out, it is now someone's back yard.

Wire Gold
January 30th - New Find
Wire Gold from Venezuela - This past year, in cooperation with Kristalle and Collector's Edge they managed to work a locality near Santa Elena, Le Gran Sabana, Estado Bolivar, Venezuela.  This was not a cheap proposition given the remote locality and tenuous political setting with Mr. Chavez... Ian showed me one of the best that they recovered from this find and it is pictured below. He also passed along some photos of the location with some candid shots of Wayne Leicht. These are stout wires and reminiscent of some of the classic oldtimers from Ground Hog mine in the Gilman District of Colorado. Wire gold is one of the rarest forms for this species. It is always offered at a substantial premium above the gold content due to the rarity of it.  I was quite happy to get a small selection of this new, and according to Ian, limited find.

Peruvian Rhodonite
January 30th - New Find
Wire Gold from Venezuela - Spanish dealer Luis Miguel Fernandez Burillo who had some stunning new specimens of bladed rhodonite from the San Martin Mine, Chiurucu, Huanzala, Peru. This is not a new locality but there hasn't been any quantity of good material from there in some time now. There was a crowd around these but I did get some fine pieces.   Several other dealers had these also but Luis by far had the best specimens available.

Tsumeb Minerals

January 26th
Tsumeb - Tsumeb - Tsumeb-I have uploaded over 300 specimens from Tsumeb with some rarities and many TNs, Miniatures and Cabinet sized specimens.  Visit this link to see what is new - New Tsumeb Minerals

Gold from Nevada
January 26th
New Find Gold from Nevada- I stopped on the way down to visit with Scott Werschky of Miner's Lunchbox who had obtained some of the finest specimens of native gold I have ever seen.  Absolutely stunning specimens of quality equal to some of the best ever found in California.  These come from the still active mine - Round Mountain Mine in Nye County, Nevada.   The are quite striking with their brilliance and high degree of crystallization.

Petzite on Gold

Joesmithite

January 26th
Specimens from the Mark Feinglos collection -  Prior to leaving for Tucson I received a box of specimens released from the Mark Feinglos collection.  Mark knows I like to handle rarities and other specimens on interesting composition or locality.  His care package was filled with some remarakble rarities including such species prosperite (with a fantastic pedigree!!), joesmithite or marrite. There were also a nice group of fairfieldite specimens from the Foote Mine in North Carolina.  Good stuff!!
