Lethrinops furcifer "Manda"

Lethrinops furcifer is living above sandy bottoms in reasonable shallow water and they can be found in entire Lake Malawi. In trade this species is offered many times as Lethrinops sp."green head" or as Lethrinops sp."green face". This variant can be found in the neighbourhood of Manda on the tanzanian coast.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 19 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 21 cm, females grow to about 16 cm.

Lethrinops furcifer is searching the sand for food and lives mainly of the invertebrates and small crustaceans they find in the sand after jigging this. They also feed on plankton. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.

You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments.
