Otopharynx antron


Otopharynx antron (formerly known as Stigmatochromis sp."modestus eastern") is a cave living species. It can be found in the southeastern part of the lake in the rocky environments between Gome and Makanjila Point.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 16 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 20 cm, females grow to about 15 cm.


Otopharynx antron is a species which you can best keep with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of hiding places. These are inhabitants you can also keep together with all kinds of species, also mbunas, however they will eat a lot of young fish.


In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with young mbunas. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
