In 1988 Ian McGeechan was promoted to coach to Scotland. In 1990 they won a Grand Slam victory
in the
Five Nations Championship. McGeechan was the British and Irish Lions Head Coach in 1989, 1993,
1997 and 2009.
In 2005, he coached the midweek side on the British and Irish Lions tour to
New Zealand on the invitation
of Sir Clive Woodward.
McGeechan was knighted in the 2010
New Years Honours List for his services to rugby and also received an OBE in 1990.
McGeechan taught sport and geography at Fir Tree Middle School and Moor Grange County Secondary School
in Leeds.
During the 1970s and 1980s he was a teacher at Fir Tree Middle School, Leeds, again specialising
in geography and sport.
In 1994 McGeechan was appointed as Director of Rugby at Northampton and then in 2005 at Wasps,
followed by a
similar positions at Gloucester and Bath.
In July 2012 Sir Ian McGeechan was appointed the executive chairman of Leeds Carnegie.
Edgar Roberts "Mobbsy" Mobbs DSO (1882–1917) was an English rugby union footballer who played
for and
captained Northampton R.F.C. and England. He played as a three quarter.
Edgar was killed in action, in July 1917,
at Zillebeke during the Third Battle of Ypres, while attacking
a machine gun post.
His body has never been found, so his name is on the Menin Gate memorial.
He was honoured with the
Distinguished Service Order.
The final Mobbs Match to feature the Barbarians took place in April 2011 against Bedford.
