| Description | Habitat: Moist, sandy or clayey soils in marshy areas, streamsides, roadsides and fields. Plant: Upright, rigid, leafy, smooth perennial up to 4 feet tall. Leaves: Stiff, narrowly-lanceolate to oblanceoleate, opposite leaves; lower leaves may have short petioles, upper leaves sessile; 3 to 5 inches long. Inflorescence: Numerous opposite blossoms in long (3 to 9 inches) terminal racemes; lavender-to-pink, 1 to 1-1/4 inches long with 5 united petals; 2 lips at rim, upper lip wavy, lower lip has 3 lobes.
