Bicolor eel (Chlopsis bicolor)

Fish of the Chlopsis genus of the Chlopsidae (false morays) family of the Anguilloidei suborder of the Anguilliformes (eels) order of the Elopomorpha superorder.

Bicolor eel, or bicolored false moray (Chlopsis bicolor) was first described in 1810 by the American naturalist Constantine Samuel Rafinesque (1783-1840).

It occurs at the depth of 80-365 meters. It inhabits the shelf zone of the sea, usually digging itself into the muddy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 42 centimeters. It feeds on bottom invertebrates, crustaceans and small-sized fish.

It is a permanent rare inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea. The species is poorly studied.
