Chestnut goby (Chromogobius quadrivittatus)

Fish of the Chromogobius genus of the Gobiinae (true gobies) subfamily of the Gobiidae family of the Gobiiformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Chestnut goby (Chromogobius quadrivittatus) was first described in 1863 by the Austrian zoologist Franz Steindachner (1834-1919).

It occurs next to the coastal zone, hiding under stones and in the roots of vegetation. The maximum recorded length is 6.6 cm. It feeds on zooplankton.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
