Rayleigh Scattering refers to the
scattering that occurs when particle size, causing the scattering, is very
small and smaller than the wavelength of lights. The longer the wavelength, the
amount of light scattered decreases drastically.
Mie Scattering occurs when the size of particles are similar with the wavelength of lights. It tells on density, size and form of particles than the wavelength of lights.
Mie Scattering occurs when the size of particles are similar with the wavelength of lights. It tells on density, size and form of particles than the wavelength of lights.
Mie Scattering unrelated to the wavelength. Water vapors, ice particles, exhaust gas and etc. are relevant to Mie Scattering. The sky is gray because sunlight scattered by Suspended solids(dust).
The distances of sunlight passing through the atmosphere are different between during the day and in morning and night. The distance is longer in the morning and night, because the sun is closed to the atmosphere. According to this, the amount of blue lights scattering increase(Rayleigh scattering). As a result, sky appears red in the morning and evening because the proportion of red lights coming into the eyes increased.
In addition, the light scattered by Rayleigh scattering include increasing red wavelength. That light scattered by dust particles in the air and it comes into the human eyes, so the sky appears red. Where there is dust is originally red, but the eyes do not know where it is so they felt the entire sky is red. Water molecules of cloud is scattered(Mie scattering), white clouds are turning red. The color of the sunset is depicted by a red light, which passes through many green-orange light in fact, is a mixed colors, respectively.
