The first sambo competition will be held in Burkina Faso

The Burkina Faso Sambo Association, with the support of the African Initiative Association, will hold the first national sambo competition from 26 to 28 January. More than 80 sambo players from different regions of the country will take part in the competition.

The Sambo Association appeared in the republic in September 2020 and today has 18 clubs across the country. The sports organisation attracts people of all ages to this discipline. According to the head of the association, sambo is not only a sport discipline, but also an opportunity to strengthen the potential of the country’s defence forces.

The national competition is a good opportunity to show people new perspectives and the importance of sport in life, as well as to identify the strongest athletes to participate in the Vladimir Putin tournament, which will be held on 27 February in Ouagadougou, with the participation of athletes from neighbouring countries-Mali and Niger, as well as from the friendly country of Russia.

During this major tournament, Russian specialists will contribute to the development of sambo in West Africa by training participants from different countries in refereeing and coaching.

Earlier, African Initiative published an interview with the Executive Director of the Burkinabe Sambo Association. Amidou Dindo spoke about the idea of the Putin tournament, the growing interest in sambo and the history of the emergence of the sport in Burkina Faso.
