Le Specialità

The dining room at La Specialità.

Via Pietro Calvi, 29, 20129 Milano MI, Italy

Milan isn’t known for its pizza in the same way that Naples is, and yet I’ve had some of the best pizza of my life at Le Specialitá, in the city’s Porta Vittoria neighborhood. The pizzas are cooked in a wood oven, making for a light and crispy pie, and the menu has more than 50 versions, including gluten-free options, along with a number of pasta, meat, and fish dishes. The space is cozy and feels a bit like home. The best part might be the crowd, though. It seems difficult to walk into any restaurant in Italy these days without running into a random acquaintance from New York; but when I go to Le Specialitá, there’s never an American in sight, just local families and friends enjoying dinner on a Sunday evening.
