新分類体系に準拠した日本産テンジクダイ科魚類の全体像は↓に掲載した。

このうち，稚魚同定に誤り，混乱があると思われるクダリボウズギス亜科（旧体系）について，以下の作業仮説を立て，順次検討していきたい。

 (1) 岡・木下（2014a）のナンヨウクダリボウズギス Gymnapogon philippinus は，未記載種（か日本未記録種）の稚魚である。

 (2) 小嶋（2014）のクダリボウズギス属の1種-1 Gymnapogon sp.1 は，ナンヨウクダリボウズギス G. philippinus の稚魚である。

 (3) 小嶋（2014）のクダリボウズギス属の1種-3 Gymnapogon sp.3 は，クダリボウズギス G. japonicus の稚魚である。

下図で（ ）内は稀な数値

 (4) 石原・立原（2014a）のクダリボウズギス Gymnapogon japonicus は，クダリボウズギスモドキ属の1種 Pseudamiops sp. の稚魚である。

 (5) 岡・木下（2014b）のヌメリテンジクダイ属の1種 Pseudamia sp. は，クダリボウズギスモドキ属の1種 Pseudamiops sp. (P. pellucidus に酷似) の稚魚である。

 (6) 日本にはクダリボウズギス属の未記載種が複数いる（Fraser, 2016）。

ちなみに，石原・立原（2014b）のコモンクダリボウズギス Gymnapogon urospilotus の学名変更（→ G. vanderbilti）（Mabuchi et al., 2014; 馬渕ら, 2015）：下表の脚注を参照のこと

クダリボウズギス亜科の分類体系の変遷については以下のとおり。

サクラテンジクダイの帰属が変わったが，臀鰭軟条が12本と多く，胸鰭条数が10本と少ないので，種レベルの同定は可能と思われる。

コモンクダリボウズギス G. vanderbilti [urospilotus は新参異名：Mabuchi et al.（2014）]。
一方，Fraser (2019) は『Gymnapogon urospilotus is comprised of a complex of species, and, since the type location is the Marshall Islands, the Australian form may not represent the same species. 』と記載している。
 

上表の新体系では，旧体系での標準和名を引きずっているとはいえ，語尾に「クダリボウズギスモドキ」をもつ種が異なる亜科に跨るようになったのは紛らわしい（感想）。

以下のように本属の語尾を「ヌメリテンジクダイ」に統一すれば解消するのであるが・・・
  サビクダリボウズギスモドキ→サビヌメリテンジクダイ

（ウスベニテンジクダイ→ウスベニヌメリテンジクダイ）
  シマクダリボウズギスモドキ→シマヌメリテンジクダイ

the クダリボウズギス G. japonicus の問題については Fraser (2016) と吉田・本村 (2016) に詳しいが，まずは G. foraminosus との関係を明らかにする必要がある（特に胸鰭条数）。

我が国周辺で採集されるクダリボウズギス属仔稚魚のタイプは数多く，その種同定にあたっては成魚の分類の整理が必要である。
 

この類は小型種で，洞窟の奥に潜んでおり（夜行性？），発見されづらい仲間であることは確かであるが，まずは標本を集めることから始めなければならない。
