Lenora Bushman is the oldest child of Alonzo Ewing Bushman and Edith Smith Bushman and a granddaughter of Bishop John and Lois Smith Bushman, who were among the original settlers of Joseph City.

She was born February 2, 1916, at Saint Joseph (now Joseph City), Arizona. In December 1919 the family moved to Mesa, Arizona and went into the cotton farming business. Here Lenora had many interesting experiences picking cotton and other work incident to farm life.

T he family returned to Joseph City in 1923. Lenora graduated from Holbrook High School and the Arizona State College at Flagstaff, Arizona. She taught school in Nutrioso, Joseph City and Thatcher, Arizona.

In 1939 she accompanied her parents on an extended tour of the Eastern States visiting many important places. She worked some time in Miami, Arizona, and in Provo, Utah, and took graduate work at Brigham Young University.

She was married to John Buren Carpenter on Sept. 15, 1944, in the Arizona Temple at Mesa. They have five children, four girls and one boy. She has held many positions in the church and communities where they have lived.

John Buren Carpenter, son of John Carpenter and Jane Barney, was born October 20,1909, at Thatcher, Arizona. He is a registered pharmacist. He owns and operates his own pharmacy in Chandler, Arizona. He served 26 months in the armed service during World War II. He attended Gila Junior college and the Denver School of Pharmacy graduating from the latter Oct. 5, 1945.

Activity counselor 2 years; speech director; ward Gleaner leader 3 years; Gleaner Supervisor Snowflake Stake 4 years; Relief Society class leader Flagstaff 2 years. She married 15 September 1944, Arizona Temple, John Buren Carpenter, son of John Carpenter and Mary Jane Barney. He was born 20 October 1909 in Thatcher, Arizona. He is a registered pharmacist and owns and operates the Chandler Pharmacy. He is a graduate of Gila College, Denver School of Pharmacy, 1945. He served in WWII 1942-45; overseas 26 months on a transport ship in active battle in the Mediterranean; was pharmacist in Medical Department; Chief Pharmacist mateat National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda.
