- Description
- Acacia saxicola is an intricately branched shrub growing to 1.5m high. The branches are rounded in cross section and sparsely hairy to hairless. The phyllodes (enlarged part of the leaf stalk taking the form of a leaf) are flat, narrowly triangular in shape, not stalked and measure 0.75-1.4cm long and up to 3mm wide. The tip of the phyllode is gradually narrowed into a reddish spine about 1.5mm long.
The pale golden globular flower heads consist of 40-50 flowers on hairless stalks, as long as the phyllodes. The dark brown, hairless pods are 3cm long and 0.5cm wide. The seeds are globular, depressed lengthways and measure 4mm by 3.2mm.
A. saxicola can be distinguished from A. ulicifolia and A. brachycarpa by the broader phyllodes, stouter flower stalks to 1.4 mm long, and flower heads with the long-pointed tips of the bracteoles projecting beyond the buds. (Stanley & Ross 1983; Maslin et al. 2001; World Wide Wattle 2006) - Map

- Habitat
- Acacia saxicola occurs in heath at an altitude of approximately 900m above sea level. It grows on rocky slopes, in soil pockets within rock crevices. (Maslin et al. 2001)
- Behaviour
- This species forms a major component of the heath community on the summit of Mt Maroon and is probably affected by fire (Holland, A.E. 2008 pers. comm.)
