Baluarte Bridge

Baluarte Bridge

CEMEX as Manufacturers

Baluarte Bridge has a height of 390 meters and the longest free-standing span in the world at 520 meters long. This double suspension bridge has 152 high-resistance steel cables and will allow the crossing over the steep banks and precipices known as the Devil's Backbone. It accommodates 4 lanes and allows an average passage of 2,000 vehicles a day.

Supplying materials was a tremendous challenge, and CEMEX relied on its worldwide knowledge pool of concrete logistics to overcome it. As one of the leading suppliers of ready-mix concrete in the world, CEMEX has the know-how and expertise to deliver materials in the most challenging conditions.

Concrete's inherent properties—extreme durability, rigidity, and high reflectivity—make it ideal for large scale infrastructure projects. CEMEX provides its customers with tailor-made building solutions based on the thorough knowledge and application of concrete technology.

The Baluarte Bridge (Puente Baluarte), officially the Baluarte Bicentennial Bridge (Puente Baluarte Bicentenario), is a cable-stayed bridge in Mexico. It is located between the municipalities of Concordia in Sinaloa and Pueblo Nuevo in Durango, along the Durango–Mazatlán highway. The bridge has a total length of 1,124 m (3,688 ft), with a central cable-stayed span of 520 m (1,710 ft). With the road deck at 403 m (1,322 ft) above the valley below, the Baluarte Bridge is the highest cable-stayed bridge in the world, and the second-highest bridge overall. Construction of the bridge began in 2008 and it was inaugurated in January 2012. It is expected to be open to traffic later in 2012. The bridge forms part of a new highway linking the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of northern Mexico and will greatly reduce the travelling time between Durango and Mazatlán.
