Body Anatomy:
Like most Arthropods, their bodies consist of three distinct regions; The head, thorax, and abdomen.
Head - one pair of antennae - one pair of mandibles - one pair of maxillae - hypopharynx- an appendage on the mouth that resembles a tongue - labium- can be described as the floor of the mouth Thorax - three pairs of legs, one on each thoracic segment Abdomen - gonopore on posterior portion of abdomen- genital pore - no locomotor appendages- no walking legs |
Habitat: The one habitat the hexapods do not inhabit are subtidal marine areas such as seas and oceans. Diet: Hexapods have great diversity in their diets and modification of their mouthparts to adapt to the various food sources is common. Many hexapods are herbivorous but some are also carnivores, parasites or parasitoids.
Reproduction: Falls into three categories: Courtship, Mating, and Parenting.
