Can Toray's top dog teach Japan's main business lobby new tricks?

Toray Industries Chairman Sadayuki Sakakibara will in June become the new head of Keidanren.

TOKYO -- Sadayuki Sakakibara has his work cut out for him. The Toray Industries chairman is set to become in June the public face of corporate Japan as chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) at a testing time. The nation's most powerful economic lobby is under growing pressure to reinvent itself.

Japan's raft of structural challenges, including the nation's aging and shrinking population and the changing global competitive landscape, have many questioning the business lobby.
