As they say big surprises come in small packets. After essentially a luckless and a very hot April day, I packed up and got into my car for the drive back home from Nandi Hills. Thats when I spotted this bird singing and perched just outside my car window -as if it was waiting to be photographed.
Needless to say that all’s well that ends well !

BTW – Samuel Tickell was born at Cuttack in India. A man who can well be considered as one of the founding fathers of the study of bird life (ornithology) in India. A contemporary of Brian Hodgson, Allan Octavian Hume and the famous Charles Darwin, his contribution to ornithology and mamma logy (study of mammals) was pioneering.
Colonel Samuel Tickell was born in Cuttack, Odisha on August 19th 1811 to Lieutenant General Richard Tickell of the Bengal Engineers who was posted here at Cuttack. He was educated in England, returning at the age of nineteen to join the Bengal Native Infantry. He served in Bengal until 1840, when he was made commander of Brian Hodgson’s military escort to Katmandu. He returned to Bengal in 1843, and after his promotion to Captain in 1847 he was moved to lower Burma.
