History of COTA

The track was designed* in 2010 by Tavo Hellmund, a former American driver and promoter, Kevin Schwantz, a former professional motorcycle racer, with the assistance from Hermann Tilke who is a German engineer who has designed and renovated a great number of Formula One tracks worldwide. COTA is a 3.426 mile, counter-clockwise race track that welcomed its first Formula One race in 2012. (*)

The beautiful COTA observation tower design came from the inspiration* of the streaks of lights from race cars at night by Miró Rivera Architects. (*)

See A Concert At The Germania Insurance Amphitheater

This venue inside of Circuit of the Americas at the infield, their 14,000+ seat amphitheater has housed huge names like Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters, ODESZA, Kanye West, Janet Jackson, TLC, Rob Zombie, Beck, Taking Back Sunday, Nelly, and many more.

There are some food trucks that park on the outskirts of the venue, very close along with bars where you can still see the show. I personally only purchase GA Lawn tickets because the seats are hard and small. Being an amphitheater venue, you’re able to still hear the music from every angle and even out to the parking lot. Speaking of the music, the sound is incredible and the light effects are always impressive. Lastly, it’s nice to use a real bathroom and not a port-o-potty!

Upcoming Concert Dates HERE.

*TIP: Chairs with legs higher than six inches aren’t allowed in the venue so don’t bring them to avoid the hassle! Additionally, be careful to make sure the bags you are bringing in are allowed, no backpacks or camera bags.

Formula 1

The largest event all year round for Circuit of the Americas (COTA) happens to be the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. With the exposure Netflix has brought to F1, has EXPLODED the sport. Last year, we saw over 400,000 spectators at COTA!

This race happens late October, early November surrounded by two nights full of exciting musical performance such as Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, and P!NK! Formula One is sanctioned by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile and the highest class of single-seat auto racing, founded back in 1950.

This is a three day event that runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are sold as 3 Day General Admission, specific seats, box seats, suites, and other options.

Next Race: October 20-22 2023

Shuttles

I encourage you to use a shuttle! Shuttles pick up and drop off from Barton Creek Mall, Waterloo Park, and Expo Center.

Parking is mostly sold-out or very far from the track at this point. In comparison, shuttles get dedicated lanes so you won’t have to wait in that CRAZY traffic, which get you to your gate incredibly quicker.

Buy a shuttle pass HERE.

Super Lap Battle USA

This young, ultimate time attack race series is all about the fastest lap time in their class (Unlimited, Limited, Street, and Enthusiast Classes plus a Pro Comp) and overall. Racers and teams come from all over the globe to battle the American teams.

If you’re unfamiliar with Time Attacks, it’s unlike other timed races. The racers are required to start with a pedal to the metal rolling start after a warm-up lap, competing for the fastest timed lap, followed by a cool down lap.

Next Date: March 9 + 10 2024

MotoGP

The Horsepower Rodeo comes back another year to COTA. This motorcycle racing series is sanctioned by Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and has races all over the planet since 1949. Here in Austin, this race happens over three days (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) and normally during early April

Fun Fact: I had the honor of driving my convertible 335is in the Parade Lap of 2019’s MotoGP on the actual entire track! That was an experience I’ll never forget!
