Sopchoppy is a Wakulla County small town in North Central Florida. Located approximately 33 miles southwest of Tallahassee and approximately 103 miles east of Panama City, the city of Sopchoppy has a population of about 500 people.
The name “Sopchoppy” is believed to derive from the Creek Native American term for “long and twisted river.” This aptly describes the Sopchoppy River, which runs along the western border of the town.
Sopchoppy is known for being a Florida Trail “Gateway Community” due to the town’s easy access to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and Apalachicola National Forest.
Sopchoppy is also known for its annual Worm Gruntin’ Festival, held every second Saturday in April. This event pays tribute to locals who used to make a living by grunting worms.
Grunting worms involves putting a metal and wooden stake in the ground to make a noise that drives worms to the surface to gather and sell as fishing bait.

Ochlockonee River State Park
If you are searching for authentic and real Florida, you will find it at Ochlockonee River State Park. The state park is located in Sopchoppy along part of the Ochlockonee River and is known for having one of the best-preserved longleaf pine forests in the world.
There are many things to do here, including picnicking in scenic areas, hiking amongst the pine Flatwoods, fresh and saltwater fishing, and swimming in the Dead River.
You can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards at the ranger station to explore local tidal creeks and rivers. There is a 30-site campground complete with electric and water hookups, a dump station, restrooms, showers, and water fountains.
Ochlockonee River State Park is open daily from 8:00 am to sundown. The park entrance fee is $4 per vehicle.

Myron B. Hodge City Park
Myron B. Hodge City Park is a 35-acre park in Sopchoppy. The park has classic park amenities like playgrounds, a basketball court, picnic areas, and nature trails. There are also camping amenities like RV and primitive camping sites.
Located on the banks of the Sopchoppy River, there is a boat launching area and fishing piers. People enjoy canoeing, fishing, and fishing in the beautiful park.

Sopchoppy Opry
Sopchoppy Opry is a monthly event in Sopchoppy hosted by the Wakulla County School Board and SHS Restoration Fund. The venue puts on twelve shows yearly in the historic Sopchoppy High School Auditorium featuring bands that play classic country, bluegrass, and gospel music.
Sopchoppy Opry is open once a month. Tickets are available for adults and children.

Civic Brewing Company is a brewery located in historic downtown Sopchoppy. The company is all about community, acting as a community hub and family-friendly gathering place. They host events and game nights, have a pet-friendly outdoor area, and have a rotating tap list.
