The Mimids are a New World passerine family that includes Thrashers, Mockingbirds, Tremblers and New World Catbirds. They are notable for their ability to mimic a wide variety of birds and other sound. Hybridization has been reported in two genera, Mimus and Toxostoma.

The Genovesa Mockingbird (M. parvulus bauri) is possible a lineage of mixed ancestry. Genetic analyses revealed that these birds share mtDNA en some autosomal loci from the San Cristobal Mockingbird (M. melanotis), while other autosomal loci are more closely related to the Galapagos Mockingbird (M. parvulus) (Nietlisbach et al., 2013).
