Many-banded Pipefish

Dunckerocampus multiannulatus

Reddish brown with about 60 fine white rings.

Size : 16 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and out reefs, 1-75m. Usually floats a short distance above seabed in protected placed, such crevices or overhangs, usually head first below cave cover. Often in pairs. Territorial male, defends his territory from competitors.

Distribution : Red Sea, East Africa, Mauritius to the Maldives and Sumatra.
