Art Description
Smiling monks peering out of temple windows are something of an iconic image from Bhutan, one that all tourists invariable end up with in their holiday photos. There is a reason why this image is so arresting that one simply has to reach out for their cameras. The vibrant red of the monks’ robes and the windows seem to signify the austere life of renunciation they have chosen, but their smiles and lively chatter hints at a kind of happiness we only aspire to. I imagine that just such an image must have been what finally led Siddhartha Gautama to start on the path of renunciation and enlightenment.

Born 1992, from Tsirang
After joining VAST Bhutan, art has become my life. I have been exploring the interdisciplinary arts, from painting, sculpting to performance arts and even carpentry and video blogging.
I do portraits and landscapes in acrylics and watercolour. Working on various projects led by Asha has given me a lot of experience and confidence. I was privileged to win a scholarship to study art in India through VAST Bhutan but was unable to complete my course due to my poor health. At present, I am volunteering at VAST Bhutan.
I enjoy doing contemporary art, which gives me a sense of freedom to express myself.
