Berlin: Heinrich Keller, 1928. First edition. Softcover. g+ to vg. Octavo. 17 (3)pp., 32 plates. Original pictorial wraps with black lettering on cover and spine. Habima (Stage/Bühne) is the name of Hebrew Moscow Theater performing plays translated from Russian and Yiddish into Hebrew. In his introduction Diebold writes about the Hebrew language and its application at the Habima, the gesture as the style of a people, the cultural community of the Jews and their expression in the theater. Diebold goes on to elaborate on the Chassidic legend of the Dybbuk, the Golem by Rabbi Löw and the Wandering Jew from medieval folklore. A brief history of the Habima from its inception at the beginning of the Russian Revolution to date concludes the introduction. Illustrated with 32 full-page b/w offset reproductions of actors in costumes from the plays Dybbuk, the Wandering Jew, the Golem and Jacob's Dream at rear preceded by a list of all plates. The best illustrated work on the company. Contains publisher's advertisements on inside flaps and back cover. Wraps with some wear along edges, small chips and rubbed. Text pages slightly age toned. Wraps in overall good+, interior in very good condition.
