This member of the Aizoaceae family was
given this name by
Martin Heinrich Gustav
Schwantes in 1926. It's from
the Cape Province in South Africa, growing in well-drained
soil with little to some water and lots of sun. The caudex grows to 3,5 centimetres
in diameter, the plant to eight centimetres height. The flowers are
bright pink.
The genera name from the Greek
thirix; 'hair' and diadema; 'band around the head',
referring to the crown of bristles on the leaf tips. The species
name means 'compact' for the growing form. |
