Conservation Status

Identifying Features

The white cushion moss is 1-3" long and grows upright. They are a pale green to blue-green color and grow in a clump or ball.

Habitat & Range

This moss is found on the forest floor, over rotting wood and in moist areas.

Behavior

The leaves are several cell-layers thick with layers of dead cells (hyaline cells). These cells can store 400 times the moss’s dry weight in water.
