Nikolay Gourbanov
will be 18 in September. He was born in Varna and as a child sang in the city’s boys’ choir Sea Sounds. He was also trained in folk dancing and to play the accordion. He has graduated from the Konstantin Preslavski High School in Varna with a major in folk singing. Currently he is student at the Academy for Music, Dance amd Fine Arts in the City of Plovdiv. He is soloist of the Academic Choir and studies folk singing and conducting. Nikolay is actively involved in various projects focused on the Bulgarian folklore heritage. He is founder of the National Youth Union that works for the preservation of folklore and for the encouragement of young talent. Nikolay Gourbanov has released an album and a collection of folk songs with piano accompaniment.

Daniela Andreeva-Kremov does not easily fit into the traditional notion of a folk singer. She has studied both folklore4 and classical music since early childhood. She was born in the village of Vetovo, Northeastern Bulgaria, to a family with music traditions. Her grandfather led amateur folk ensembles and her mother sang northern songs beautifully. Recently, at the Bulgarian National Radio, Daniela recorded songs from her native region. They have all been arranged by Angel Dobrev, one of the soloists of the BNR Folk Music Orchestra.

Daniela graduated the Filip Kutev National School of Folklore Art in the town of Kotel. She has taken part in various competitions and festivals including the famous festival in Koprivshtitsa, the Golden Rebec Competition in Rousse and others. In 1997 she made her debut in pop music and joined various TV formats as a young talent. Later she sang country music, rhythm-and-blues and rock. She continues to sing folk songs, some of them in modern arrangements. Daniela is a mother of four. Her husband comes from a music family too. He is nephew of famous folk singer Ivan Kremov. In the recent years Daniela has been working as translator and teacher of English in the town of Pomorie. Her dream is to record a range of ancient kapan songs that she has collected from elderly people, and is currently working on this project.

Some of the recent entries in the music archives of the Bulgarian National Radio are recordings of Vechernitsa Trio. The trio’s three singers are experienced musicians. Vanya Vakari also sings at Angelite Choir, and Sorina Bogomilova and Tania Parvanova are part of the Filip Kutev Folk Song and Dance Ensemble. As Vechernitsa Trio they have already released an album. The songs that we offer have been arranged by renowned folk musician Kosta Kolev. Vechernitsa Trio has had some foreign tours too: in Europe and North America. In some of the recordings that you can listen to, the three singers have invited guest-soloists.
