From eight horses to 8 Horses: Fork’s owners prep new lounge

New details reveal more about the basement bar opening beneath Fork in downtown Boise.

BoiseDev reported last summer that Cameron and Amanda Lumsden, the owners of restaurants Fork and Alavita, planned to open a bar and lounge in the basement of the 132-year-old Boise City National Bank Building, also known as the 805 Building, where Fork is also housed.

At the time, the Lumsdens were considering calling the bar The Vault, as it’s centered around the old 15-ton bank vault in the building’s basement.

The name has now changed to 8 Horses Lounge with an opening date scheduled sometime in June.

8 Horses is described as an intimate setting focused on cocktails and wine.

The Lumsdens are renovating the 4,000-square-foot subterranean space in a way that pays homage to the history of the building it’s in. The name is also a tribute to the building’s beginnings.

“Tucked into the basement of the historic 805 West Idaho building, one of the most iconic buildings in downtown Boise, 8 Horses began its life as the vault space for Boise City National Bank,” an update on the bar reads. “It took a team of eight horses to cart 14,000 lb sandstone blocks from Table Rock Quarry to build its entire five-story facade. Today, the 15-ton vault door remains and welcomes you to a reimagined space to gather, connect, and enjoy.”

People can follow along on 8 Horse’s social media channels for an update on the exact opening.
