Do you think think guts will ever consider isidro as his son?

Hello and thanks for the ask! Also sorry if replies are a bit late - I’ve been very busy and my creative energy is very low as a result. It’s why I haven’t been posting too much these days.

Right now, I think Guts does think of himself like a role model or part of family to Isidro.

Very early on Guts saw his younger self in Isidro and took responsibility for him, even if they just met:

I mean, Guts teaches Isidro a few fundamental fighting moves in volumes 23/24 and does a much better job at it, than say, Gambino. I want to think that Guts somewhere wishes to be a better person and treat Isidro better than he was treated: Gambino was condescending, riling up young Guts for the sole purpose to upset him. He probably enjoyed doing that, too.

Now Guts is a little bit snarky towards Isidro, teasing him and all to “motivate” him, but we also see him praising the young boy and giving him some advice:

(I’m actually under the impression Guts is a pretty good teacher teach me the ways of love, gatsu senpai😍 sorry not sorry)

This is similar, but still so different to what Gambino did. In my perspective, Gambino’s way of sparring with Guts was definitely malicious. He appeared to take out his frustration on him more than anything else (Imo that became pretty clear once he lost his leg later). As a result of that, Guts fought even harder, even managed to hurt Gambino; who then retaliated and inflicted Guts’ famous
nose scar. Note how they were both using real swords.

Now Guts is different, while the methods are a bit similar (at least in regards to the teasing), his intention seems to be more to help Isidro find his own way. He’s not taking out his frustration out on the boy, he is more giving him a little shove by subtly pissing him off when he was asking Guts for a short-cut. Note how they also never hurt each other severely too, because they were using wooden sticks, not actual swords.

Apart from this there are also plenty of times when Guts saves Isidro, showing that he feels responsible for him, being concerned with his safety and well-being:

  • Conviction Arc: The first time they met he just throws him away when being pursued by the angry wheel spirits (I think that was absolutely hilarious).

Innocents and children getting killed while they were trying to get close to Guts happened way too many times (see the priest’s daughter during the Black Swordsman arc; it’s also why he shooed away Jill). So he does his hardest to keep them safe

  • Millennium Falcon Arc: Guts saves Isidro from the crocodile familiars
image
  • Fantasia Arc: When they arrived at Elfhelm Guts saves his ass from the enchanted pumpkins, telling him to learn from his mistakes

Will Guts see Isidro as his actual son? I mean, I can definitely see the trend here. He definitely will in case the moonlight boy turns out to be out of reach completely (e.g. in case of his death) for both Guts and Casca. Isidro might turn out a comfort for both in that case.
