The Power of One Proven Strategy

Transforming lives with the power of love

EMPHASIZING MEASURABLE GOALS

By The Hand has always taken a holistic approach to child development, emphasizing the achievement of measurable goals for academic, physical and spiritual development. When you take one step to help move a mountain, our kids consistently overcome the most difficult circumstances to make extraordinary progress.

PROVIDING HOLISTIC SUPPORT

When you take one step to to offer hope and help, you provide a safe, welcoming place where kids can learn during the most dangerous time of day, when most crimes are committed by and against youth. You provide personalized academic support and technology-enabled instruction to make sure they can read at their grade level, pass all of their classes and make all ABCs. Breaking down the barriers to learning, you also provide for their physical needs, including nutritious meals, general healthcare and counseling. And you offer spiritual guidance, mentoring and life-enriching experiences such as camp, sports and the arts.

ACHIEVING MAJOR MILESTONES

Our kids are improving their reading comprehension and language skills at an accelerated rate—sometimes as much as four grade levels in a year. They are graduating from high school and enrolling in college as healthy, educated and hopeful young adults. Our students are learning to find their own Power of One, serving as role models and leaders in their communities.

ONE THING CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING.

For a person with a bachelor’s degree, the average earnings over a period of 40 years is $2.4M—more than twice the average for someone with a high school diploma, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In contrast, every high school dropout who enters a life of crime and drugs costs society an average of $2.1M over his or her lifetime.

The difference of $4.5M compared to the $110,500 that we invest in each child over a 17-year period represents an ROI of 42 dollars for every dollar you invest. And this doesn’t include the “compounding” effect of transforming lives generations to come.
