Land and Water Rights in Honduras

UMD faculty and students share experiences in Honduras

On Thursday, November 30, Dr. Carol Wallace, Assistant Professor of Spanish/Hispanic Studies in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, Dr. Pat Farrell of the Department of Geography, Urban, Environment & Sustainability Studies, and UMD student Caiti Marks presented Land and Water Rights in Honduras as part of the Alworth International Brown Bag Series. In May-June 2017, these members of the UMD community traveled to Honduras as part of a ten-day Witness for Peace delegation. They met with various civic organizations involved in struggles to protect their land and rivers from development projects that put their communities and environment at risk. The people of these communities put their lives on the line to defend their part of our planet. They shared some of what the delegation learned about these inspirational activists and their struggles, as well as the role of the United States in Honduras.
