Balakat-gubat – Sapium luzonicum
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Description: A tree growing up to 25m and having a diameter of about 100cm. Bark is brown and scaly. Leaves are shiny, alternate, ovately eliptic to oblong in shape 7-14cm long to 6cm wide. Fruits are ovoid to obovoid and 1-seeded.
Distribution: Luzon, Cagayan, Rizal, Quezon.
Habitat: Found in humid forests of Luzon, Visayas, Davao (Mindanao).
Economic Importance: Wood used for general construction work.
Ecological Status: Depleted due to logging and kaingin and kaingin-making.
