Etymology of Seemannaralia:
For Berthold Carl Seemann (1825–1871), German botanist, naturalist, explorer and botanical collector who studied at the Royal Botanical Garden, Kew, and was associated with a number of British missions. He accompanied Captain H Kellet on HMS Herald (1846–1851) during a Pacific expedition, visiting the Cape on his return to England. He authored The Botany of the Voyage of HMS Herald (1845–1851). He travelled to Fiji and published a catalogue of the flora of the islands (1859), visited South and Central America (Venezuela, Nicaragua and Panama) in the 1860s, and died shortly thereafter. He was the editor of Bonplandia (1853–1862), the Journal of Botany (1863–1869), and the Journal of Botany, British and Foreign (1863–1871).
