Allium acuminatum Hook. is a perennial herb with grass-like leaves and small pink to purple flowers clustered in an umbrella-like head. 

Allium acuminatum bulbs are almost completely spherical to slightly ovate bulbs. Some wild bulbs may appear “egg-shaped." Hooker’s onion bulbs have a characteristic light brown, reticulate-fibrous, “net-like” tunic.

Allium acuminatum Hook., commonly known as Hooker’s or tapertip onion, is a perennial herb found west of the Rocky Mountains. Hooker’s onions were less commonly consumed by Interior peoples than nodding onion (Allium cernuum), but were prepared similarly to nodding onion.
